The campus of Anna College Madurai recently transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors, marking the arrival of Onam with immense cultural pride and traditional elegance. More than just a harvest festival, the event became a powerful symbol of unity, bringing together students and faculty from diverse academic backgrounds for a day filled with joy and togetherness.
From the early morning hours, the festive spirit was palpable. The air was thick with the scent of fresh flowers as students from various streams—ranging from our BSc Optometry and Forensic Science departments to the professional programs like Medical Lab Technology—joined hands to celebrate the heritage of Kerala. This seamless blend of cultures showcased a campus environment that truly values harmony beyond the classroom.
Elegance in Every Fold
One of the most striking sights was the sea of traditional attire. The girls looked radiant in elegant Kerala sarees, while the boys embraced the spirit of the day in traditional Mundus.
It was heartening to see students from Catering and Hotel Management, BSc Aviation, and BBA Aviation take a break from their professional routines to grace the occasion in their cultural best. This collective adherence to the dress code added a layer of authenticity and visual beauty that defined the day’s celebrations.
The Floral Heart of Onam – Pookalam & Nilavilakku
The centerpiece of the event was undoubtedly the Pookalam. Intricately designed with fresh, vibrant petals, the floral rangoli was a testament to the teamwork of our students. Collaboratively crafted by students across departments—including those from B.Voc Operation Theatre Technology and Lab Technician courses—the Pookalam symbolized the blooming creativity of our youth. The ceremonial lighting of the Nilavilakku followed, filling the atmosphere with a sense of peace and auspicious beginnings
Strengthening Bonds Beyond Academics
As the day progressed, the stage area became a hub of informal interactions and festive greetings. Whether it was the enthusiastic participation of the Virudhunagar Hotel Management students or the spirited presence of the MBA Healthcare Management teams from both Madurai and Virudhunagar, the energy was infectious. These moments of celebration provided a perfect platform for students to strengthen their bonds, creating memories that go far beyond textbooks and exams.

The stage area witnessed informal interactions, cultural greetings, and celebratory moments that brought smiles to everyone present. Students from Virudhunagar hotel management students, catering and hotel management , and catering added festive energy to the event with their enthusiastic presence.
The calm yet lively celebration reflected respect for tradition while fostering togetherness.
